Non-Dairy Ice Cream Series

I loved ice cream, absolutely loved it. My favorite was Tillamook Creamery’s Oregon Strawberry. I’ve been to Tillamook Creamery on family vacations, and I had the Oregon Strawberry ice cream while there. I can still visualize this visit and selecting the flavor — happy memories. For me, ice cream has positive associations and happy memories. Whenever I had Tillamook’s Oregon Strawberry ice cream, I can remember my Mom smiling, I can remember how cool and refreshing the taste was on a hot summer evening, especially after a day in the pool.

Adapting to a casein allergy meant I could no longer consume ice cream. I was heartbroken over this realization — dramatic, sure, but food is significant to all humans. Going to the grocery with knowledge I had this food allergy was truly life-changing. Nearly everything I had grown up eating, I could no longer consume. In other words, I could no longer connect with food attached to childhood experiences.

Adaption, meant exploration. The aisles of ice cream I did explore, and to my great surprise, there are numerous non-dairy brands and flavors available on the market today.

This series of writing will be dedicated to reviewing the different non-dairy ice creams I’ve tried, and giving my honest opinion on them.
